Its intense character reflects the core of a classic Imperial Stout, balancing deep roasty bitterness with the refined, vinous complexities of age. The result is a sophisticated, warming sipper with a lingering, pleasant finish that showcases the brewer's intent for depth.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40 SRM). Pours with a thick, deep tan head that shows moderate retention. High viscosity is evident through visible legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of bittersweet chocolate, espresso-like roasted malt, and toasted grain. The whiskey barrel aging contributes clear notes of vanilla and subtle oak. Secondary notes of dried fruits like raisins and prunes emerge from the year of cellaring, accompanied by a clean, warming alcohol presence.
Taste. Initial impression is rich and intensely malty with flavors of dark cocoa and charred grain. Firm bitterness from both roasted malts and hops provides balance. The whiskey barrel influence adds layers of vanilla and a hint of woody tannin. The finish is long and bittersweet, transitioning from malty sweetness to a pleasant, lingering roasted dryness.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A smooth, gentle whiskey warmth is noticeable throughout the palate without being sharp or hot.
