Oedipus Gaia
Oedipus Gaia is a vibrant American IPA that beautifully captures the classic West Coast spirit with a contemporary touch. A robust malt bill featuring colored malts provides a sturdy, slightly sweet foundation that supports an aggressive hop profile. The aromatic journey is dominated by the piney and resinous qualities of Cascade, Columbus, Chinook, and Centennial, while a generous dry hop of Amarillo introduces a layer of refreshing citrus and stone fruit. This 7% ABV ale strikes a deliberate balance between firm bitterness and a smooth, medium body, concluding with a clean finish and a lingering, resinous aftertaste that reflects its earthy name.
Appearance. Light reddish-amber with brilliant clarity. Pours with a medium-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves decorative lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of resin, pine needles, and grapefruit zest. Underlying hints of orange and floral blossoms emerge from the dry hopping. A low to medium-low clean maltiness provides a bready, slightly toasty backdrop with very low fruity esters.
Taste. Initial sharp, clean hop bitterness followed by flavors of pine, damp earth, and citrus rind. The malt profile offers light caramel and toasted bread notes to balance the high bitterness. Fermentation is clean with a faint lingering sweetness. The finish is medium-dry and crisp, leaving a persistent hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Moderate to high carbonation provides a refreshing prickle. A very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present without any astringency.
