Oedipus Brewing Schwung
Schwung is a modern interpretation of a Saison, capturing a rustic complexity through a diverse grist of four grains. This collaboration between Oedipus and IJver presents an inviting bouquet where contemporary hops deliver pronounced aromas of ripe stone fruit, such as apricot and peach, layered over the characteristic peppery phenols of Belgian yeast. The palate is defined by its high attenuation, offering a bone-dry finish that accentuates a firm, hop-driven bitterness and a grainy, cereal-forward malt backbone. Effervescent and refreshing, it balances traditional farmhouse spice with a vibrant, fruit-forward hop profile, resulting in a lively and sophisticated drinking experience.
Appearance. Luminous pale gold to deep orange with a slight haze from being unfiltered and the use of four grains. Topped by a dense, long-lasting ivory head that leaves persistent Belgian lace. Highly effervescent.
Aroma. High aromatic intensity featuring a blend of spicy, black pepper yeast phenols and a modern hop character. Significant notes of stone fruit—notably peach and nectarine—mingle with a light, grainy malt sweetness and a touch of floral, earthy complexity.
Taste. Initial impression is bright and dry. A complex, rustic malt profile from the multi-grain bill provides a soft, cereal base for flavors of stone fruit and citrus. Moderate to high bitterness is prominent, leading into a very dry, spicy finish with a lingering peppery aftertaste and no residual sweetness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a very high, prickly carbonation that creates a refreshing, effervescent mouthfeel. A very subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, while the finish remains crisp and clean without astringency.
