Oedipus

Pamela is an evocative Gose and Saison blend that captures the essence of a coastal summer. The two-year red wine barrel aging introduces a sophisticated vinous depth and subtle oak tannins to the bright, lactic tartness of the base Gose. Bracing sea salt and citrusy coriander meld with a unique piney breeze, likely derived from the prolonged wood contact and wild yeast character. The result is a highly refreshing, dry, and complex ale where bready wheat malts are balanced by a mouthwatering salinity and a whisper of red fruit, finishing with the crisp, effervescent elegance of a well-matured farmhouse ale.

Appearance. Straw to light yellow in color (3-4 SRM) with a moderate to full haze. It features a tall, white head with tight bubbles and good retention, supported by a highly effervescent character.

Aroma. Moderate to high intensity featuring sharp lactic sourness and bright lemon. Fresh coriander provides a citrusy lift, complemented by a distinct mineral salinity and a subtle 'sea breeze' character. The red wine barrel aging contributes faint notes of oak, dried herbs, and a whisper of dark grape or vinous fruitiness.

Taste. The initial impression is one of mouthwatering saltiness and medium-high lactic acidity. Bready, doughy malt flavors provide a soft base for lemon and pome fruit esters. The two-year barrel maturation adds a dry, vinous complexity and a hint of piney wood. Hop bitterness is very low, with the finish being bone-dry and acidic rather than bitter, leaving a clean, refreshing aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a round, slightly thicker texture provided by the wheat and salt. High carbonation creates a tingly, effervescent sensation on the tongue. There is a very light tannic astringency from the red wine barrels, though the beer remains crisp and highly drinkable.
