Occidental’s Further is a modern American IPA that showcases a vibrant, tropical hop profile driven by the interplay of Azacca and Strata hops. Pouring a clear medium gold with a resilient white head, it opens with high-intensity aromas of ripe pineapple and mango from the Azacca, complemented by the distinctive passionfruit and light herbal dankness of Strata. The palate follows suit with layers of bright citrus and berry, supported by a clean, grainy malt base. A firm bitterness provides structure, leading to a crisp, dry finish typical of the style. This 6% ABV ale balances hop-forward complexity with refreshing drinkability.
Appearance. Medium gold (approx. 7 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Features a persistent, frothy white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by tropical fruit (pineapple, mango) and passionfruit with light notes of berry and resin. Low, clean, grainy-sweet malt provides a subtle backdrop with a neutral fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial impression is hop-forward and bright. Prominent flavors of mango and citrus zest from Azacca hops meet the pungent passionfruit and strawberry notes of Strata. Bitterness is firm and clean, balanced by a light, bready malt presence. Finishes dry and crisp with a lingering hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily hop texture. Moderate-high carbonation provides a crisp bite. Very light, integrated alcohol warmth.
