This Coffee Porter presents an alluring marriage of robust roasted malts and specialty El Salvador coffee from Finca San Andres. On the nose, intense notes of freshly ground espresso and dark chocolate dominate, underpinned by a subtle toasted malt sweetness. The palate is defined by a smooth, medium-full body that carries flavors of rich cocoa, nutty undertones, and a bright, berry-like acidity characteristic of the Cloud Picker Coffee roast. A gentle hop bitterness provides structure, while the finish is remarkably clean with a lingering roasted depth. It is a harmonious expression of a traditional Porter enhanced by artisanal roasting from Coffee Mojo.
Appearance. Deep mahogany to opaque black in color (SRM 35-40). Pours with a thick, creamy, tan-colored head that exhibits excellent retention and leaves intricate lacing on the glass. Clarity is brilliant at the edges of the glass despite its dark hue.
Aroma. High intensity of freshly roasted coffee, reminiscent of cold-brew concentrate and dark chocolate. Supporting malt notes of toasted bread, light caramel, and cocoa powder are present. Hop aroma is very low, allowing the coffee to lead. Low fruity esters suggesting dried plum or raisin are tucked into the background.
Taste. Initial impression is of rich, dark-roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate. The malt profile provides a solid backbone of toasted grain and nutty sweetness. Bitterness is moderate, derived from both the roasted malts and the coffee bean addition, balancing the initial sweetness. Fermentation is clean with very low esters. The finish is smooth and dry with a lingering espresso and cocoa aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture that coats the palate. Carbonation is moderate, providing enough lift to prevent the richness from becoming heavy. Alcohol warmth is very light and well-integrated. No harshness or astringency from the coffee or roasted grains.
