Nurme AVOTI IX is a vibrant Wild Specialty Beer that captures the essence of a Baltic summer garden. At a sessionable 4% ABV, it presents a delicate yet complex interplay between local rhubarb and raspberries. The sensory profile is led by the sharp, vegetal tartness of fresh rhubarb, seamlessly woven into the bright, jammy notes of ripe raspberries. A clean, wild acidity provides a crisp backbone, while the underlying fermentation character offers subtle earthy nuances. This refreshing sour is defined by its bone-dry finish and lively effervescence, making it an evocative and highly drinkable expression of seasonal fruit and wild fermentation.
Appearance. The beer displays a striking, hazy pinkish-red to soft magenta hue, reminiscent of crushed summer berries. It is crowned by a fine-beaded, light pink head that dissipates fairly quickly, leaving a delicate ring of lacing. The clarity is characterized by a soft, attractive haze from the significant fruit additions.
Aroma. The intensity is moderate to high, dominated by the fragrance of fresh, slightly stalky rhubarb and sun-ripened raspberries. A light, clean lactic acidity provides a sharp edge, while very low bready malt notes sit in the background. Subtle wild fermentation esters offer a faint hint of hay or earthiness, though the fruit remains the primary aromatic driver.
Taste. The initial impression is briskly tart and refreshing. Dominant flavors of tangy rhubarb and sweet-tart raspberries provide a garden-fresh character. Malt flavor is minimal, appearing only as a light cracker-like foundation. Hop bitterness is virtually absent, allowing the fruit acidity to lead the balance. The finish is remarkably clean, dry, and crisp, with a lingering note of red berry skin.
Mouthfeel. Light-bodied and lean, emphasizing its thirst-quenching nature. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a lively, tingling sensation on the tongue. Alcohol warmth is non-existent at this strength. There is a very slight, pleasant astringency from the rhubarb and fruit skins that enhances the overall dryness without being harsh.
