This Cold IPA showcases the vibrant, rare character of New Zealand Riwaka hops against a lean, crystalline backdrop. The sensory experience is dominated by an intense burst of lime zest and pungent grapefruit peel, layered with the tart sweetness of red currant and a sharpening flick of resin. True to the style’s intent, the 5.9% ABV remains remarkably clean, emphasizing a bone-dry finish and a light, crisp body. The specific 2025 harvest from Freestyle Hops provides an ultra-fresh citrus punch that lingers without the weight of specialty malts, delivering a high-definition hop profile that is both aggressive and refreshing.
Appearance. Pale straw to medium gold (approx. 4-6 SRM). Brilliant clarity with a medium-sized, persistent white head and delicate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent lime zest, grapefruit, and a distinct red currant berry note. Undertones of fresh pine resin are present. Malt is very low, providing only a faint, clean cracker-like grainy presence. Fermentation is extremely clean with no detectable esters.
Taste. Immediate impact of zesty lime and grapefruit peel, followed by subtle red currant and herbal resin. Bitterness is firm and clean, assertive but not harsh. Grainy malt flavor is minimal, serving only to support the hops. Finish is bone-dry and crisp with a lingering citrus and resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a very crisp, refreshing texture. Medium-high carbonation enhances the dry finish. No astringency is present; alcohol warmth is very subtle and well-integrated.
