This 2025 edition presents an intense sensory profile dominated by rich, malty chocolate notes that glide across the palate. Deeply roasted grains provide a backbone of espresso and bittersweet cocoa, while subtle undertones of dried plums and black currants add complexity. Despite its robust 8.4% strength, the alcohol is seamlessly integrated, offering a smooth, warming sensation. Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40 SRM). Topped with a thick, creamy, deep tan head that leaves persistent lacing. High viscosity is evident in the slow-forming legs on the glass.
Aroma. Intense and multifaceted, led by a powerful wave of dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and roasted coffee beans. Moderate esters suggest dark fruits like raisins and figs. Hop aroma is low and earthy, while a gentle, clean alcohol sweetness supports the rich malt profile.
Taste. The initial impression is one of luxurious bittersweet chocolate and roasted malt. Flavors of charred toast and espresso emerge mid-palate, supported by a firm, moderately high bitterness that prevents the decadent maltiness from becoming cloying. Substantial dark fruit character persists into a long, warming, and slightly dry roasted finish.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is moderate-low, enhancing the beer's weight. A smooth, gentle alcohol warmth is present without being sharp or fusel.
