Wading In the Tides is a masterclass in hop saturation, presenting a Triple IPA that radiates with a potent tropical bouquet. The extensive dry-hopping regimen showcases Citra, Citra Cryo, and Citra Incognito, delivering layers of sweet tangerine and pink grapefruit. Freestyle Motueka contributes a bright, zesty lime character, while Freestyle Nelson Sauvin introduces sophisticated notes of crushed white grapes and gooseberry. A neutral, grainy malt base allows these New World hops to remain the focal point. Despite its significant strength, the beer maintains high drinkability with a clean fermentation profile, finishing with a balanced, lingering bitterness that invites another sip of this liquid sunshine.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (8-10 SRM). Features a moderate-sized, creamy white head with excellent persistence and intricate lacing. Clarity is mostly clear, though a slight hop-induced haze is present from the triple dry-hopping.
Aroma. Intensity is high, dominated by a complex hop profile of passion fruit, lychee, and zesty lime. Supportive notes of white wine and diesel from the Nelson Sauvin are prominent. The malt character is low and clean, offering a hint of cracker-like sweetness, while the fermentation profile remains neutral with just a whisper of smooth alcohol.
Taste. The initial impression is an explosion of tropical fruit, featuring mango and lime citrus zest. Hop flavors are intense, mirroring the aroma with a distinctive vinous quality. Malt flavors are soft and unobtrusive, providing a platform for a moderately high bitterness that avoids harshness or resinous astringency. Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate, providing enough lift to balance the density. A noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the 10% ABV without being solventy or hot. Very low astringency despite the massive hop load.
