North Coast Old Stock Ale Cellar Reserve 2020 12oz

Old Ale 13.7 º
This vintage Cellar Reserve Old Ale presents a decadent tapestry of sensory richness, shaped by extensive maturation in Brandy barrels. The aroma is dominated by heady notes of spirit-soaked raisins, dark plum, and treacle, interwoven with the toasted vanilla of fine oak. On the palate, a luscious malt backbone delivers complex layers of molasses, toffee, and dried figs, all mellowed by a refined, Sherry-like oxidation. The Brandy influence adds a sophisticated vinous depth and warming finish, while the structural bitterness has softened into a graceful, supporting role. It is a profound expression of time and barrel craft.
Appearance. Deep mahogany to dark reddish-brown (18-22 SRM); moderate to low tan-colored head with poor retention and light lacing; clear with some brilliance despite the depth of color.
Aroma. High intensity; rich malty-sweetness with layers of molasses, toffee, and light treacle; pronounced dried fruit esters of raisin and plum; notable vinous character with Sherry-like oxidation and a distinct Brandy spirit presence; subtle vanilla and toasted oak.
Taste. Luscious malt complexity featuring caramel, nuttiness, and deep molasses; moderate to high fruity esters suggesting figs and dates; Brandy-derived flavors of grape and oak tannin are prominent; low hop bitterness that has mellowed with age; finish is lingering and sweet with a well-integrated alcoholic warmth.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full to full body with a chewy, viscous texture; low carbonation characteristic of aged strong ales; significant alcohol warmth that is smooth rather than harsh; light oak tannin provides a drying counterpoint to the body.
