This Imperial Stout is an exercise in intensity, shaped profoundly by its maturation in Lagavulin 16 barrels. The sensory experience is dominated by the distinct Islay peat smoke and medicinal iodine notes of the whisky, which weave through a dense tapestry of bittersweet chocolate and espresso-like roasted malts. Deep vanilla from the wood provides a necessary counterpoint to the charred grain, while dark fruit esters of prune and raisin emerge as the beer warms. It is a viscous, slow-sipping experience where the 13.5% ABV provides a smooth, glowing heat, culminating in a complex, smoky, and lingering cocoa finish.

Appearance. Opaque jet black (40+ SRM) with a thick, dense, dark tan head. Head retention is moderate, and high viscosity is evidenced by oily legs clinging to the glass.

Aroma. High intensity; dominant notes of campfire smoke, peat, and leather from the Islay barrels. Underlying rich layers of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and burnt sugar. Moderate esters of dried figs and black currants with a noticeable but well-integrated alcohol presence.

Taste. Intensely flavored with a massive foundation of roasted malt, dark chocolate, and sweet vanilla. The barrel aging contributes signature peaty smoke and a hint of salinity. Moderate-high bitterness is balanced by a rich, malty sweetness. Notes of black licorice and molasses lead to a long, warming, and slightly smoky finish.

Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. Significant and smooth alcohol warmth is present without being sharp or solventy.
