This Specialty IPA integrates the spicy, rustic bite of rye malt into a dark, hop-forward frame. Columbus hops deliver a pungent punch of resin and earth, while Amarillo adds a bright layer of orange citrus and floral notes. The malt bill provides a deep mahogany appearance with subtle hints of light chocolate and toasted bread, avoiding any harsh or burnt roastiness. The spicy rye character complements the firm bitterness, leading to a dry and clean finish. Overall, it presents a complex sensory profile where piney, citrusy hop oils and peppery grain meet a smooth, dark malt backbone.
Appearance. Dark brown to mahogany in color (25–35 SRM). It features a moderate-sized, persistent, light tan head and exhibits clarity when held to the light, revealing deep ruby highlights.
Aroma. Moderate to high hop aroma characterized by resinous pine and herbal dankness from Columbus, alongside orange peel and floral zest from Amarillo. Low malt presence with subtle chocolate and bready toast, accented by a distinct peppery rye spice and clean fermentation.
Taste. Initial hop-centric impression of pine and citrus. Malt flavors are low to medium, offering gentle toasted character and light chocolate without roast harshness. The rye provides a noticeable peppery spice that enhances the dry finish. High bitterness is balanced by the grain, leaving a lingering, clean, resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate, providing a crisp bite. Alcohol warmth is light and well-integrated.
