Appearance. Very dark brown to near black (35–40 SRM), appearing opaque in the glass. It is topped by a thick, persistent tan head that leaves significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity roast-forward aroma featuring dark chocolate, espresso, and lightly charred grain. Subtle background notes of caramel and toffee provide sweetness, while low earthy and resiny hop notes are present. Moderate esters of raisin and dried plum add depth.
Taste. The initial impression is bittersweet and richly roasted. Prominent flavors of dark chocolate and espresso dominate, supported by a toasted bread malt character. Medium-high hop bitterness and low earthy hop flavors provide balance. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering, clean roasted coffee aftertaste and no harsh acridity.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its strength, with only a very slight dark malt astringency.
