Nickel Brook Continental Drift
Nickel Brook’s Continental Drift is a vibrant Belgian Pale Ale that bridges the Atlantic, marrying traditional Old World yeast with bold New World hop character. The aroma is led by the spicy, peppery phenols of the Belgian yeast strain, quickly joined by the dank, resinous punch of Columbus and the bright, tropical citrus notes of Amarillo. On the palate, a foundation of bready, toasty malt supports a complex interplay of stone fruit esters and pungent hop oils. This fusion results in a remarkably refreshing profile where European elegance meets North American intensity, finishing with a crisp, balanced bitterness.
Appearance. Deep amber to polished copper in color (10–12 SRM) with very good clarity. It features a persistent, creamy, rocky white head that leaves consistent lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. A base of toasty and bready malt is layered with a pronounced spicy and peppery phenolic character from the yeast. These traditional notes are amplified by the pungent, dank resin of Columbus and the distinct tropical fruit and grapefruit zest of Amarillo.
Taste. Initial impressions of soft, bready malt and light caramel sweetness are balanced by a complex fruitiness of pear and orange. The mid-palate features the assertive dankness of Columbus and tropical Amarillo character, supported by a medium-high bitterness. Low peppery phenols add depth, leading to a balanced, drying finish where herbal hop notes linger.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, well-rounded palate. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively prickle. At 5.6% ABV, the alcohol warmth is very low and well-integrated.
