Major Label is a striking Black IPA that balances the assertive hop character of a New World ale with the subtle, restrained roast of dark malts. High hop intensity delivers waves of resinous pine and bright citrus, integrated with light chocolate and toasted malt notes. The use of debittered malts ensures the dark color provides visual depth and a hint of coffee without the ashy bitterness of a stout. On the palate, a firm bitterness asserts itself, leading to a crisp, dry finish that highlights the interplay between tropical hop esters and a clean, smooth malt backbone. This beer remains highly drinkable, maintaining the hop-forward soul of an IPA.
Appearance. Dark brown to opaque black (SRM 35). Features a moderate, persistent light tan head with good lacing. The beer is clear, though its depth of color makes it appear opaque.
Aroma. Moderate to high hop aroma with prominent notes of resinous pine, grapefruit zest, and a hint of tropical melon. Low malt character provides background scents of light chocolate and toasted bread. Clean fermentation profile with no significant esters.
Taste. Medium-high hop bitterness is the primary impression, supporting hop flavors of citrus and resin. Malt flavors are low to medium, offering restrained chocolate and coffee notes without burnt or ashy qualities. Finishes dry with a lingering, clean bitterness and a touch of roasted grain.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth texture. Moderate carbonation provides a crisp mouthfeel. Very light alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, with no roasted malt astringency.
