Newbarns Brewery Eat Yer Bread

Pale Ale 5.2 º
Eat Yer Bread is a nuanced American Pale Ale that bridges Old World elegance with contemporary craft sensibilities. The foundation of heritage barley and local wheat creates a distinctive, rustic malt profile characterized by freshly baked bread and soft, grainy sweetness. This structure perfectly supports a liberal addition of Tettnang hops, which impart refined layers of dried flowers, herbal spice, and a touch of black pepper. While traditionally an American style, the use of noble German hops provides a clean, crisp bitterness that remains approachable and refreshing. The finish is remarkably dry, leaving a lingering trail of floral spice and wholesome grain.
Appearance. Pale gold (6 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a thick, frothy white head that exhibits excellent retention and leaves delicate lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. The nose is led by the floral and spicy qualities of Tettnang hops, offering notes of lavender and herbal tea. Supportive malt aromas of toasted bread and raw grain emerge from the heritage barley, complemented by a light, doughy sweetness from the wheat. Fermentation is clean with very low fruity esters.
Taste. The initial impression is a balance of soft, bready malt and refined hop spice. The Tettnang hops provide a firm but smooth bitterness, carrying flavors of dried herbs and wildflowers. The heritage barley adds a complex, cracker-like depth, while the wheat provides a smooth, rounded mid-palate. Bitterness is moderate, leading to a crisp, dry, and exceptionally clean finish with a brief, spicy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a slightly creamy texture from the wheat. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a prickly, refreshing sensation. No alcohol warmth is detected; the finish is smooth and free of astringency.
