This colossal English Barley Wine, a collaboration with Our Mutual Friend, presents a decadent sensory landscape shaped by 14 months in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. Aroma. High intensity and deeply complex. Dominant aromas of rich toffee, dark caramel, and spicy rye malt are layered with Kentucky Bourbon notes of vanilla, toasted oak, and coconut. Significant dark fruit esters reminiscent of raisins and prunes. Alcohol is noticeable but rounded and sweet.
Taste. Initial impression is a wave of rich malt sweetness and spicy rye. Mid-palate reveals layers of treacle, biscuit, and dark fruit leather. Bourbon barrel aging contributes sweet oak and vanilla. Hop bitterness is low to moderate, providing just enough balance against the massive malt. The finish is long, warming, and moderately sweet with a vinous, sherry-like quality.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy; a luscious, velvety texture that coats the mouth. Carbonation is low. Significant alcohol warmth is present but smooth and integrated, lacking harshness or fusel burn.
