This exceptionally potent English Barley Wine presents a decadent tapestry of three-year barrel maturation and exotic Amburana wood. Deep layers of rich caramel and dark fruit—reminiscent of raisins and figs—provide a dense malt foundation. The Amburana finishing introduces highly aromatic layers of cinnamon, graham cracker, and toasted coconut, seamlessly melding with the vanilla and toasted oak from the extended cellar aging. At over 16% ABV, the warmth is significant yet integrated, offering a velvety, viscous experience that blurs the line between traditional ale and fine spirit, finishing with a complex, lingering sweetness and spice.
Appearance. Deep mahogany to dark brown (20-22 SRM) with brilliant clarity and visible ruby highlights; pours with a low, off-white head that shows poor retention and significant legs on the glass due to high viscosity.
Aroma. High intensity; dominant aromas of rich caramel and toffee alongside intense dark fruits like plum and raisin. The Amburana wood adds distinct layers of cinnamon, vanilla, and graham cracker, complemented by a port-like, vinous oxidation and soft, aged alcohol warmth.
Taste. Massive malt sweetness featuring layers of biscuit and dark caramel; complex fruit esters of dried fig and date are prominent. The Amburana wood provides bold flavors of coconut and spice, while the oak contributes structure. Bitterness is low, having faded with time, leading to a moderately sweet, lingering finish of vanilla and warm alcohol.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a luscious, velvety texture; carbonation is low. A smooth, significant alcohol warmth is present but not harsh, providing a coating and viscous mouthfeel.
