This Imperial Stout presents an opulent sensory experience, merging the robust intensity of a traditional dark ale with the creamy indulgence of a milk stout. The profile is dominated by a rich, dark chocolate and roasted coffee foundation, significantly enhanced by the aromatic depth of toasted hazelnuts. Lactose additions contribute a silky, milk-chocolate sweetness that rounds out the charred malt bitterness. The 11.2% ABV is masterfully integrated, providing a gentle warmth that supports a thick, chewy texture. Expect nuanced notes of dark berries and vanilla, culminating in a long, dessert-like finish reminiscent of hazelnut pralines.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). It pours with a dense, dark tan to mocha-colored head that shows moderate retention. High viscosity is evident through thick legs that cling to the glass upon swirling.

Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and heavy toasted hazelnut. Secondary notes of vanilla and sweet cream from the lactose are present, alongside subtle dark fruit esters like plum and raisin. Hop aroma is negligible, buried under the rich malt and nut character.

Taste. The initial impression is decadent and sweet, led by milk chocolate and the distinct oily richness of toasted hazelnuts. The mid-palate reveals layers of roasted grain, charred malt, and black coffee that provide a necessary counterpoint to the sweetness. Hop bitterness is medium-low, allowing the malt and adjuncts to lead. The finish is long and lingering, tasting of cocoa powder, nut skins, and a smooth, warming alcohol presence.

Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied with a thick, chewy, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the creamy sensation provided by the lactose. A distinct but smooth alcohol warmth is present without being sharp or solventy.
