Neptune Brewery’s Mantis is a vibrant Micro IPA that punches well above its weight, delivering the bold aromatics expected of a full-strength American IPA at a highly sessionable strength. Bright citrus zest and succulent stone fruits lead the charge, underscored by a lush layer of tropical notes. Despite its petite stature, it maintains a clean, grainy malt backbone that supports a subtle, well-integrated bitterness. This refreshing ale finishes crisp and dry, emphasizing drinkability while showcasing a complex hop profile that ensures the "small beer" experience remains impactful and flavor-dense with a remarkably clean fermentation profile.
Appearance.Pale gold to medium gold (SRM 4–6). Brilliant clarity with a light, frothy white head that shows moderate persistence and delicate lacing.
Aroma.Moderate to high intensity featuring prominent notes of grapefruit, peach, and mango. Low, clean, bready malt presence provides a neutral base. Fermentation is very clean with no notable esters or phenols.
Taste. The initial impression is hop-forward, bursting with orange zest and apricot flavors. A low, grainy malt sweetness is quickly overtaken by a moderate, subtle bitterness that is restrained for the style. The finish is dry and clean with a lingering hint of tropical fruit skin and crisp hop character.
Mouthfeel.Light body with a smooth, refreshing texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively prickle on the tongue. Zero alcohol warmth and no detectable astringency.
