This Lichtenhainer-inspired ale presents an intriguing fusion of bright citrus and rustic smoke. Brewed with orange and smoked dried fruits, the sensory profile opens with a distinct oak smoke aroma, characteristic of the historical base style, layered with vibrant orange zest. The palate is defined by a refreshing lactic tartness that balances the savory, campfire notes. Subdued impressions of smoked plum and raisins emerge from the dried fruits, while a light wheat malt backbone provides a clean, grainy foundation. Effervescent and crisp, it finishes bone-dry, making for a complex yet highly sessionable experience where fruit and smoke coexist harmoniously.
Appearance. Pale straw to light gold (SRM 3-5). Features a moderate, white, fine-beaded head with fair retention. Expect a slight to moderate haze due to the wheat base and fruit additions.
Aroma. Moderate intensity smoke, primarily woodsy and oak-like. The smoke is complemented by a bright, fresh orange citrus note and a clean, acidic sharpness. Subtle hints of dark, leathery dried fruits are present but secondary to the smoke. Low grainy wheat malt character.
Taste. Initial impression is a refreshing tartness followed by a balanced oak smoke flavor. Orange zest provides a mid-palate brightness. The smoked dried fruits contribute a faint, complex sweetness reminiscent of smoked prunes or raisins without being heavy. Very low hop bitterness. The finish is very dry and clean with lingering smoke and citrus.
Mouthfeel. Light body with a crisp, refreshing texture. High carbonation provides a lively, prickly sensation on the tongue. No alcohol warmth is perceived given the low 4% ABV. Minimal astringency.
