This Double IPA showcases a vibrant interplay between Citra and Simcoe hops, delivering a punchy sensory experience built on an 18BLG foundation. The aroma is dominated by Citra’s signature notes of ripe grapefruit and tropical mango, while Simcoe provides a grounding layer of resinous pine and passionfruit. A clean, neutral malt profile ensures the hops remain the focus, leading into a firm, crisp bitterness that defines the style. At 7.1% ABV, the beer offers a smooth, well-integrated warmth without overwhelming the palate. The finish is strikingly dry, leaving a lingering trail of citrus zest and forest floor.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange (SRM 7-9) with a slight, modern haze. Features a large, creamy white head with excellent persistence and fine-beaded lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop presence featuring prominent grapefruit, lime, and tropical pineapple from Citra, contrasted by the damp pine, resin, and earthy berry notes of Simcoe. Malt is low and neutral, providing a light crackery backdrop. Clean fermentation with no notable esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a wash of citrus and resinous hops. Mid-palate reveals layers of passionfruit and orange peel. Bitterness is high and firm but lacks harshness, balanced by a soft, grainy malt sweetness that quickly fades. The finish is very dry and clean, with a persistent hoppy aftertaste of pine and zest.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, almost creamy texture from the high gravity (18BLG) despite the dry finish. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a lively prickle. Alcohol warmth is light and well-hidden, enhancing the overall drinkability.
