This English Barley Wine presents a decadent sensory landscape shaped by extended maturation in Otazu red wine barrels. The complex grain bill featuring Pilsner, Carafa, and Caramunich malts creates a deep foundation of rich toffee, toasted bread, and burnt caramel. Columbus hops provide a grounded earthy and spicy backbone that balances the intense malt sweetness. The red wine influence is prominent, weaving vinous notes of dark grapes and subtle oak tannins through layers of dried figs and raisins. At 11.7% ABV, it offers a plush, warming experience with a velvet-like texture and a sophisticated, lingering finish of aged dark fruit and soft oxidation.

Appearance. Deep mahogany to dark brown (SRM 18-22) with brilliant clarity and ruby highlights. Pours with a low, creamy off-white head with modest retention; high viscosity is visible via distinct legs on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity with a complex malt profile of caramel, toffee, and toasted biscuit from the Caramunich and Carafa malts. Strong esters of dried plum and fig are complemented by a vinous red wine character and soft oak. Low earthy hop aroma from the Columbus addition is present, alongside a smooth, well-aged alcohol warmth.

Taste. Rich, multi-layered malty sweetness featuring bread crust, dark toffee, and molasses. The mid-palate reveals pronounced dark fruit esters and a significant vinous quality from the wine barrels. Columbus hops provide a moderate bitterness that prevents the finish from being cloying. The aftertaste is long and warming, evolving from sweet malt to dry oak tannins and aged sherry-like notes.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a thick, luscious texture. Carbonation is low but provides enough lift to manage the density. A distinct, smooth alcohol warmth is present throughout without being sharp or fusel.
