This collaboration between Naparbier and Brew & Roll presents a sophisticated Belgian Dark Strong Ale enhanced by a vibrant raspberry infusion. The sensory experience is defined by an intensive malt presence, offering deep layers of toasted bread and dark caramel that provide a sturdy foundation for the fruit. The raspberry introduces a bright, nuanced acidity that perfectly offsets the malt sweetness without becoming sharp. Belgian yeast esters contribute notes of plum and dried cherry, while the 10% alcohol remains remarkably smooth and well-integrated. The result is a balanced, deep amber ale that masks its strength through a harmonious blend of tart berry and rich, spicy malt complexity.
Appearance. Deep amber with ruby highlights (18-22 SRM). Features a huge, dense, and persistent light tan head with excellent lacing. Clarity is generally clear despite the fruit addition.
Aroma. High intensity featuring rich, bready-toasty malt and dark caramel notes. Prominent raspberry aroma blends with Belgian yeast esters of raisins and plums. Subtle spicy phenols like black pepper are present in the background. Alcohol is soft and perfumy rather than hot.
Taste. Initial malt richness leads to flavors of caramel, toast, and dried dark fruits. The raspberry provides a distinctive tartness that balances the intensive malt bill. Low to moderate bitterness (approx. 25-30 IBU) allows the fruit and malt to lead. The finish is moderately dry and clean, avoiding any syrupy heaviness despite the high gravity.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy, smooth texture. High carbonation provides a lively lift on the palate. Alcohol warmth is noticeable and pleasant but never harsh or fusel.
