This barrel-aged Schwarzbier offers a sophisticated interpretation of the classic German dark lager, refined by four months of lagering in George Dickel Whiskey barrels that previously held stout. The sensory profile is defined by a harmonious fusion of toasted bread and milk chocolate, enriched by subtle spirit-forward notes of vanilla and charred oak inherited from the wood. Despite its sessionable strength, the influence of the barrel provides a deceptive depth, layering gentle spirituous nuances over a clean, dry lager finish. The result is an exceptionally drinkable beer where traditional roasted malt smoothness meets the rustic, mellow charm of Tennessee whiskey.
Appearance.Very dark brown with deep garnet highlights; brilliant clarity. Features a large, persistent, creamy tan head with excellent lacing.
Aroma.Moderate intensity with a clean lager character. Prominent notes of toasted bread and dark chocolate are layered with subtle whiskey-derived vanilla and dry oak. Very low herbal hop aroma and no burnt grain harshness.
Taste.Initial impression of smooth toasted malt and bitter chocolate. The mid-palate reveals soft spirituous notes and a touch of woody tannin from the George Dickel barrel. Medium-low bitterness provides balance without dominating. Finishes very dry and clean with a lingering roasted malt and faint spirit aftertaste.
Mouthfeel.Medium-light body with moderate to moderately-high carbonation. Remarkably smooth and creamy on the palate with no roasted astringency and a subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth from the barrel aging.
