Nano Cinco Baffin is a focused Double IPA that highlights an intense interplay between Citra and Nelson Sauvin hops. The aroma leads with dominant notes of pink grapefruit and tangerine from the Citra, underpinned by the sophisticated white wine and gooseberry character of Nelson Sauvin. The inclusion of malted spelt and a large portion of oats creates a soft, pillowy texture that carries these hop-driven flavors across the palate. While the bitterness is assertive, it is rounded by a rustic, grainy malt sweetness. The finish is medium-dry and clean, leaving a lingering impression of tropical fruit and resin.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (7-11 SRM). Forms a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head with good lacing. Exhibits a slight, attractive haze due to the high protein content of the spelt and oats.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward bouquet featuring grapefruit, passion fruit, and crushed white grapes. A clean, grainy malt character stays in the background, providing a neutral base for the hops. Very low esters and no solventy alcohol notes.
Taste. Strong hop flavors of citrus zest, gooseberry, and melon. Bitterness is high but smooth, never reaching harshness. The malt flavor is supportive and clean with a light nutty quality from the spelt. It finishes dry to medium-dry with a persistent, hoppy aftertaste of resin and lime.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a silky, creamy texture from the heavy use of oats and spelt. Carbonation is medium-high. A smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present without any hop-derived astringency.
