This American Pale Ale highlights the singular synergy of a SMASH recipe, combining pale Pilsen malt with the celebrated Nelson Sauvin hop. The result is a vibrant, straw-colored ale defined by an elegant white wine character. Intense aromas of freshly crushed grapes and tart gooseberries lead the sensory experience, characteristic of the New Zealand hop variety. Appearance. Straw-light to pale gold (SRM 3-5). Features a moderately large, bright white head with good retention and fine lacing. Generally quite clear to brilliant.
Aroma. High intensity of white wine, crushed grapes, and gooseberry from the Nelson Sauvin hops. Supporting malt is low and neutral with a grainy, crackery character from the Pilsen base. Fermentation is clean with very low fruity esters.
Taste. The initial impression is hop-forward with prominent flavors of white grape, gooseberry, and a touch of passionfruit. The malt provides a low, neutral bready support. Bitterness is moderate, balancing the hop fruitiness without becoming harsh. The finish is medium-dry and clean with a lingering grape-like aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a refreshing prickle. Alcohol warmth is minimal and well-integrated; no astringency.
