The Null is a sophisticated Belgian Dark Strong Ale that marries traditional monastic depth with an intriguing wisp of wood smoke. Appearance. Deep coppery-brown with garnet highlights; 20 SRM. Features a huge, dense, moussy, and persistent light tan head with excellent lacing. Generally clear with a slight, healthy shimmer.

Aroma. High intensity. Rich, bready-toasty malt base with deep caramel and hints of dark sugar. Intense dark fruit esters of raisins, plums, and dried cherries are prominent. A light, savory wood smoke layer complements spicy phenols of black pepper. Alcohol is soft and perfumy, never solvent-like.

Taste. Rich and complex maltiness featuring toasted bread and dark caramel. Dark fruit flavors of prunes and dates lead into a spicy, peppery yeast character. The added smoke provides a subtle, woody counterpoint to the malt sweetness. Bitterness is medium-low, allowing the alcohol and dry finish to provide balance. No harsh roasted notes are present.
