This American Stout draws inspiration from the dark, peat-stained pools of Northumbrian mosses, delivering a rich and evocative sensory experience. Despite its sessionable strength, it maintains a robust profile of roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate. A moderate citrusy and resinous hop presence balances the deep malt character, reminiscent of the wild flora found in Hadrian’s Wall Country. The pour is jet black, topped with a thick, persistent head the colour of cotton grass. Each sip offers a clean, roasty finish that mirrors the stark, atmospheric beauty of its namesake National Nature Reserve.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque; features a large, persistent, and creamy head with a light tan, cotton-grass-white hue and excellent lacing.

Aroma. Moderate to high intensity of roasted grains, presenting as dark chocolate and cold-brew coffee. Subdued but present American hop notes of citrus peel and pine needles, with very light fruity esters.

Taste. Initial flavors of bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee beans lead into a low malt sweetness featuring hints of caramel. A firm hop bitterness provides balance against the dark grains. The hop flavor is moderately citrusy, finishing dry with a lingering, pleasant roasted grain character.

Mouthfeel. Medium-bodied with a slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a crispness that cuts through the roast. Minimal alcohol warmth, making it highly drinkable.
