Appearance. SRM 6-12. Deep gold to burnished copper with a subtle reddish-orange tint from the paprika. Forms a moderate, off-white head with fair retention. Noticeable haze is present due to being unfiltered and bottle-conditioned.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. The aroma is dominated by the savory, smoky, and slightly sweet scent of Pimentón de la Vera. Beneath the smoke lies the floral and lemony brightness of Sichuan pepper. The base malt provides a clean, grainy, and bready backdrop. Hop aroma is very low, allowing the spice character to lead. Fermentation is clean with no significant esters.
Taste. Initial impression is savory and mildly smoky. Malt flavors are bready and grainy, providing a soft sweetness that supports the spice additions. The Pimentón de la Vera offers a rich, earthy, and smoked flavor that lingers into the finish. Sichuan pepper adds a layer of citrus-like spice and a very faint, characteristic numbing tingle on the tongue. Bitterness is low to moderate, primarily serving to balance the malt rather than provide a distinct hop punch. The finish is dry, clean, and dominated by a lingering smoky spice aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate to high, enhanced by bottle conditioning, providing a crispness that helps scrub the palate of the smoky spices. Alcohol warmth is negligible. A very slight, pleasant astringency or tingle may be felt from the Sichuan pepper.
