This American Stout, a collaborative 'Xmas deviant' with Sussex Small Batch, presents a robust sensory profile defined by deep roasted grains and nuanced wood character. The initial impact is driven by dark chocolate and espresso-like roast, balanced by a resiny hop presence typical of the style. The integration of oak introduces a sophisticated tannic structure that cuts through the beer’s inherent creaminess. Despite its 6% ABV, the mouthfeel is remarkably smooth, finishing with a lingering bitterness and a dry, woody depth that keeps the palate engaged and vigilant, perfectly capturing the intent of a festive yet bold dark ale.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40). Pours with a large, persistent, and dense light-brown head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity roasted aroma featuring dark chocolate and charred coffee beans. Low citrusy and resiny hop notes are present, complemented by a distinct woody, toasted oak character and a hint of dark fruit esters.

Taste. Moderate to high roasted flavors of bittersweet chocolate and espresso. Medium-high hop bitterness is balanced by a low malt sweetness of caramel and toasted bread. The mid-palate reveals dry oak tannins and a resinous hop flavor, leading to a dry, slightly burnt, and lingering woody finish.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a noticeably smooth and creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate-high. Features a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth and a moderate drying astringency from both the roasted malts and the oak additions.
