Montseny Monastic Ale
This Belgian Tripel presents a complex, seamless bouquet that belies its strength. Celebrating fifteen years of brewing, this anniversary ale leads with a vibrant interplay of clove-like phenols and expressive fruity esters, specifically ripe banana and bright orange zest. A delicate pilsner malt foundation provides a soft, honey-like sweetness that supports a perfumed, floral hop character. The experience is defined by its deceptive smoothness; while the alcohol is well-integrated at 8.5% ABV, the finish remains remarkably dry and effervescent. Every sip offers a harmonious balance of spicy yeast character and light, grainy malt, staying true to traditional monastic brewing techniques while maintaining high drinkability.
Appearance. Deep yellow (SRM 6) with excellent clarity and a brilliant luster. It supports a long-lasting, creamy, and rocky white head that leaves characteristic Belgian lacing on the glass as it fades.
Aroma. High intensity aromatics featuring a complex blend of clove-like phenols and fruity esters reminiscent of ripe banana and orange peel. A low but distinctive floral and perfumed hop character is present, backed by a light, honey-like malt sweetness.
Taste. An initial impression of soft malt sweetness followed by a wave of spicy and fruity yeast flavors. Notes of peppery clove and orange zest predominate, with a background of grainy-sweet pilsner malt. The bitterness is medium-high and firm, leading into a very dry, clean finish with lingering spicy yeast notes.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body that feels lighter than the gravity suggests due to high attenuation. Carbonation is high and effervescent. Alcohol warmth is remarkably low and deceptive, providing a smooth experience without harshness or astringency.
