This American Stout delivers a robust sensory experience where intense roasted character meets a remarkably supple texture. The foundation of barley is enhanced by the addition of wheat and oats, which provide a silky smoothness that tempers the typical aggressive roast. On the nose, bold notes of dark chocolate and roasted coffee dominate, supported by a moderate citrusy and resiny hop presence. The palate mirrors these flavors, offering a complex blend of bittersweet cocoa and espresso, cushioned by a grainy sweetness from the three cereals. It finishes moderately dry with a firm bitterness, balancing the creamy mouthfeel for a refined, dark ale experience.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (40 SRM). Features a large, persistent, and creamy light tan head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity roast aroma with clear notes of dark chocolate and espresso. Moderate hop character presents as citrus and light resin. Very low esters and a clean fermentation profile, with a subtle grainy sweetness from the oats and wheat.
Taste. Initial impression is of bittersweet chocolate and deeply toasted grain. Medium-high bitterness provides a firm structure against a low to medium malt sweetness. Hop flavors are moderately citrusy. The mid-palate is softened by the cereal additions, leading to a dry and slightly roasty finish with lingering cocoa notes.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a distinctly creamy and smooth texture from the oats and wheat. Moderate carbonation with very low alcohol warmth and minimal roast-derived astringency.
