Vinyl Vice is a powerhouse Double IPA that showcases the heavy-hitting synergy of Citra and Simcoe hops. A saturated aromatic profile of ripe mango, grapefruit zest, and sticky pine resin greets the nose, underpinned by a lean, doughy malt foundation. On the palate, the high hop intensity translates into layers of passion fruit and zesty lime, followed by a persistent, dank bitterness that balances the elevated alcohol content. The finish is remarkably clean and dry for its strength, masking the warmth with a bright, citrusy punch and a smooth, resinous trail that exemplifies the intensity of the style.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange (7-9 SRM). Good clarity with a slight, acceptable haze. Features a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma dominated by tropical fruit, grapefruit, and passion fruit from the Citra, supported by the earthy pine and resinous depth of Simcoe. Malt is low and neutral, providing a soft, grainy backdrop. Fermentation is clean with a subtle, well-integrated alcohol note.
Taste. Strong and complex hop flavors of citrus zest, melon, and dank pine. Bitterness is high but smooth, lacking any harshness. Malt character is unobtrusive and clean, offering minimal residual sweetness. The finish is dry to medium-dry with a lingering, clean hoppy bitterness and light stone fruit esters.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate. A noticeable but refined alcohol warmth is present, consistent with its high strength, without being solventy.
