Crazy Normal is a masterclass in hop saturation, reimagining the American Pale Ale with a triple dry-hopped intensity. Built on a crisp foundation of Belgian Pilsner malt, the sensory profile is dominated by an overwhelming display of Citra, Krush, and Galaxy hops. Expect an olfactory explosion of tropical passionfruit, juicy peach, and lime zest, underscored by a heavy, resinous dankness. Despite the lower alcohol content compared to a typical Double IPA, it maintains a lush, velvet-like texture. The palate follows with layers of stone fruit and bright citrus, finishing dry with a clean, lingering bitterness that invites another sip.
Appearance. Pale straw to deep golden with a persistent, thick white head that leaves significant lacing. While the style traditionally suggests clarity, this modern iteration presents a characteristic hazy, opaque glow resulting from the intensive triple dry-hopping process.
Aroma. High intensity. A massive bouquet of tropical fruits including passionfruit and mango from the Galaxy hops, blended with the bright grapefruit and lime of Citra. A distinct stone fruit note from Krush joins a heavy, resinous, and dank undertone. Malt character is low, offering a light, grainy sweetness.
Taste. The initial impression is a fruit-forward explosion of peach and citrus zest. The Belgian Pilsner malt provides a subtle, cracker-like backbone that allows the hop saturation to shine. Bitterness is moderate but firm, well-integrated with a resinous, herbal quality. The finish is remarkably clean and dry, with a lingering tropical aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a surprisingly creamy, soft texture. Carbonation is moderate, providing a gentle prickle that balances the hop density. Alcohol is extremely well-hidden, offering no perceptible warmth and enhancing drinkability.
