The palate follows suit with moderate bitterness and a prominent toasted character. At 6.2% ABV, it offers a satisfying balance of dark chocolate notes and a lingering, coffee-driven finish that is both rich and assertive.
Appearance. Jet black to opaque dark brown (35-40 SRM). Features a dense, persistent light-brown to coffee-colored head with uniform, fine bubbles and consistent lacing. The beer is slightly hazy.
Aroma. High intensity roasted aroma dominated by espresso beans and toasted grain. Underlying notes of dark chocolate and subtle caramel from the crystal malt are present. Hop aroma is very low, allowing the coffee and roasted rye to lead. Fermentation is clean with negligible esters.
Taste. Initial impression of strong, bittersweet roasted coffee and dark chocolate. The roasted rye provides a sharp, toasted grain edge, while crystal malts offer a medium-low sweetness to balance the moderate hop bitterness. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering toasted coffee aftertaste and a subtle burnt grain quality without harsh acidity.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a notable creaminess and thickness derived from the addition of oats. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a lively sensation. Alcohol warmth is light and well-integrated. A slight roast-derived astringency is present but remains smooth.
