This Hazy Double IPA showcases the innovative SubZero Hop Kief, delivering an intensely bright and clean sensory experience. The concentrated lupulin from Motueka provides a vivid lime and tropical foundation, further elevated by the punchy grapefruit notes of Citra and the distinctive white wine and gooseberry character of Nelson. Despite its 8.2% ABV, the profile remains exceptionally juicy rather than heavy. Aromas of passion fruit and crushed citrus zest precede a plush, velvety palate where the hop saturation is maximized while vegetal bitterness is minimized, resulting in a modern, fruit-forward, and highly aromatic expression of the Double IPA style.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange (5-7 SRM). Distinctive haze ranging from uniform cloudiness to opaque. Features a thick, persistent, mousse-like white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by tropical and citrus notes. Prominent lime zest, passion fruit, and crushed gooseberry. Background hints of melon and sweet grapefruit. Malt is low and neutral, providing a light crackery support. Fermentation is clean with no perceptible esters beyond the hop-derived fruitiness.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical fruit juice. Strong flavors of lime, peach, and sauvignon blanc grapes follow. Malt flavor is low, suggesting light bread or flour. Hop bitterness is moderate and smooth, lacking any harshness or vegetal bite. The finish is clean and medium-dry, with a lingering citrus and tropical fruit aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, creamy, and rounded texture. Carbonation is moderate. A gentle, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated. No hop-derived astringency or mouth-coating oiliness.
