This Imperial Stout presents a masterful integration of base beer and barrel, shaped by nineteen months in fifteen-year-old William Larue Weller wheated bourbon barrels. The extended aging coaxes out profound notes of buttery caramel and rich vanilla, softening the intense roasted malt profile. Dark chocolate and espresso notes form a sturdy foundation, while the wheated bourbon influence adds a unique smoothness and depth of toasted oak. Free from adjuncts, its complexity arises solely from the interplay of charred wood, spirit character, and a deep, bready malt backbone, resulting in a harmonious, velvety, and sophisticated sensory experience.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a dense, dark tan head that shows moderate retention and develops viscous legs on the glass, indicative of its high alcohol content and gravity.
Aroma. High intensity; a rich bouquet of bittersweet chocolate, roasted coffee, and dark molasses. The William Larue Weller barrels contribute prominent aromas of bourbon-soaked oak, sweet vanilla, and heavy caramel.
