Charging On A Wire presents a high-voltage sensory experience, characteristic of a potent Double IPA. A base of pale malts, wheat, and flaked oats provides a velvety canvas for an explosive double dry-hopping regimen. Intense layers of passionfruit and berry from Strata collide with the tropical watermelon notes of El Dorado Cryo. Citra Cryo adds vibrant grapefruit zest, while Idaho 7 contributes deep pineapple and a hint of resinous pine. At 10% ABV, the warmth is noticeable but integrated, supporting a firm bitterness that cuts through the soft texture, culminating in a complex, fruit-forward finish.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange (7–9 SRM) with a heavy, opaque haze from the inclusion of wheat and flaked oats. Pours with a dense, creamy, persistent off-white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma dominated by tropical and citrus fruit. Prominent notes of passionfruit and dank herbs from Strata are complemented by sweet melon and stone fruit. Citra Cryo provides sharp lime and grapefruit peel, while Idaho 7 adds crushed pine needles and ripe pineapple. Malt is low and neutral, providing a light bready, grainy background.
Taste. Bold, complex hop flavors mirror the aroma, featuring a tropical medley of mango, pineapple, and citrus zest. Initial soft malt sweetness from the oats and wheat is quickly balanced by a moderately high, firm bitterness that remains smooth rather than harsh. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering resinous and fruit-skin aftertaste. A clean, warming alcohol presence is evident, enhancing the depth of the hop oils.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a soft, creamy, and pillowy texture. Carbonation is moderate. Significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present without being solventy. No hop-derived astringency is present despite the heavy dry-hop charge.
