Modern Times Beer Oneida
Oneida is a vibrant American Pale Ale that showcases a modern, hop-forward profile led by Hallertau Blanc. This variety delivers an uber-pungent bouquet of tropical fruit and lemongrass, supported by the classic grapefruity citrus of Cascade. The addition of experimental hop 05256 adds further depth, creating a complex sensory experience. Despite its aggressive bitterness, the beer remains exceptionally drinkable with a light, crisp body and a dry, clean finish. Neutral, grainy malts provide a subtle foundation, allowing the unique, white grape and herbal hop characteristics to shine through with every refreshing and aromatic sip.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale amber with excellent clarity. It carries a moderately large, bright white head that shows good retention and leaves delicate lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop-driven aroma featuring distinct notes of lemongrass, white grape, and tropical passionfruit from the Hallertau Blanc. These are layered over a background of grapefruit peel from the Cascade hops. A low, neutral grainy-sweet malt scent provides a clean backdrop with very low fruity esters.
Taste. The initial impression is a firm hop bitterness that leads into flavors of lemongrass, gooseberry, and citrus zest. Hallertau Blanc provides a unique vinous, tropical quality while Cascade adds a classic pithy grapefruit edge. The malt character is low, suggesting light cracker or bread crust, supporting the hops without adding sweetness. It finishes dry and clean with a lingering, crisp bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Light to medium-light body with moderate to high carbonation that enhances the refreshing qualities. It is smooth across the palate with no astringency and a very subtle, well-integrated alcohol presence.
