Experts Only is a sophisticated Black IPA that strikes a masterful balance between shadowy malt depth and vibrant hop presence. At 7% ABV, it presents a sensory profile defined by subtle, dark roasted malts, yielding delicate notes of unsweetened cocoa and toasted bread rather than harsh, burnt char. These malt layers provide a smooth, supportive foundation for an assertive hop character, which delivers resinous pine and sharp citrus zest. The result is a highly drinkable, dry-finishing ale that offers the refreshing, bitter punch of an American IPA while satisfying the palate with the nuanced complexities of dark, specialty grains.
Appearance. Opaque, dark brown to black (35-40 SRM) with a thick, persistent tan head that displays excellent lacing as it recedes.
Aroma. Moderate-high hop intensity featuring resinous pine, grapefruit, and a hint of tropical fruit, layered over very low to moderate notes of light chocolate and toasted malt. Clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial impression of crisp hop bitterness is followed by flavors of citrus peel and pine. The malt character is restrained and smooth, offering light chocolate and coffee notes without any ashy or burnt qualities. Finishes dry and clean with a firm, lingering bitterness and a soft, roasty aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-bodied and smooth with moderate carbonation. A light, well-integrated alcohol warmth is noticeable but does not detract from the drinkability.
