Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40). Features a large, persistent, light-brown head with excellent retention and thick lacing.
Aroma. High intensity roasted malt aroma featuring prominent notes of bittersweet chocolate, cocoa, and dark roasted coffee beans. Low resinous hop character and subtle dark fruit esters are present, with a clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Initial impression of rich, roasted grains followed by flavors of dark chocolate and strong espresso. Medium malt sweetness provides a roundness that balances a firm hop bitterness. The finish is medium-dry with a lingering roasted quality and a hint of citrusy hop flavor.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full to full body with a smooth, somewhat creamy texture. Moderate carbonation and a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth. Very low roast-derived astringency.
