Mills Brewing Amber Lees - Blend Two

Other Styles 6.6 º
Amber Lees - Blend Two presents a sophisticated, fruit-forward profile characteristic of a vibrant, well-attenuated Brett Beer. This blend balances a rich, malt-forward core with the complexity of fermentation in cider and California white wine barrels. The aromatic profile is strikingly expressive, led by a trans-atlantic dry hopping of Mosaic and Goldings that yields vivid notes of blueberry, strawberry, and zesty orange, complemented by a hint of ginger. While dark muscavado sugar provides a subtle depth to the amber body, the high acidity and firm bitterness ensure a crisp, poised finish. It is a masterful interplay of rustic barrel funk and bright, modern fruitiness.
Appearance. Deep amber to copper hue (SRM 12–16) with a slight, natural haze from bottle conditioning. Pours with a moderate, creamy off-white head that shows good persistence and leaves delicate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity and exceptionally fruit-forward. Mosaic hops drive primary scents of blueberry and tropical fruit, while Goldings contribute an earthy, floral undertone. Fermentation-derived aromatics include strawberry, orange zest, and a sharp ginger note. Subtle rustic funk—wet hay and light spice—emerges from the Brettanomyces, layered over a faint vinous note from the white wine barrels.
Taste. The initial impression is a blend of malt richness and vibrant acidity. Toasty malt and dark muscavado sugar notes provide a brief sweetness before being overtaken by a firm hop bitterness and tart berry flavors. The Goldings add a spicy, herbal depth to the mid-palate. The finish is remarkably dry and clean, with lingering notes of citrus peel and a gentle organic acidity that balances the residual malt character.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a crisp, slightly lean structure due to high attenuation. Carbonation is moderate-high and lively from bottle conditioning. There is a light, well-integrated alcohol warmth and a faint, pleasant astringency from the wine barrel tannins.
