This robust Holiday Ale reimagines the American Porter with a festive, warming profile. Dominated by a complex tapestry of roasted malts, it delivers deep layers of dark chocolate and hints of roasted coffee. The sensory experience is defined by an aromatic holiday spice blend, where distinct notes of cinnamon and clove mingle with a delicate touch of nutmeg. Ripe plum esters emerge mid-palate, softening the roasted edges. While the American Porter foundation provides a firm bitterness and a sturdy malt backbone, the elevated alcohol content lends a gentle, integrated warmth that carries the spiced, cocoa-laden finish.
Appearance. Very dark brown (approx. 35–40 SRM), nearly opaque with deep garnet highlights. Crowned by a dense, tan-colored head with excellent retention and thick lacing.
Aroma. High intensity. A rich roasted malt core featuring dark chocolate and light espresso is layered with prominent festive spices: woody cinnamon, spicy clove, and a hint of earthy nutmeg. Subtle dark fruit notes of ripe plum are present, alongside a low, earthy hop presence and clean fermentation profile.
Taste. The initial impression is of bittersweet chocolate and toasted grain. Spices are well-integrated, following the aroma with cinnamon and clove providing a savory-sweet depth. Moderate hop bitterness balances the malt richness, leading to a medium-dry finish. Flavors of dark stone fruits like plums provide complexity against the roasted backdrop.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, creamy texture. Moderate carbonation provides enough lift to prevent heaviness. A noticeable but pleasant alcohol warmth reflects its 8% strength, with a very slight, well-managed roasted malt astringency.
