Syrax is a bright and nimble Session IPA that captures the hop-forward essence of the American IPA style at a refreshing 3.5% ABV. Built around the unique character of Styrian Dragon hops, the profile opens with vibrant grapefruit-like citrus, layered with distinctive earthy and spicy undertones. The lean malt bill provides a crisp, grainy foundation that highlights the hop complexity without adding weight. It finishes remarkably clean and dry, offering a punchy bitterness that remains approachable. This is a highly crushable, aromatically-driven ale designed for ultimate drinkability while maintaining the assertive hop signature expected from the Mikkeller house.
Appearance. Pours a brilliant medium gold (6 SRM) with a medium-sized, white, persistent head that leaves light lacing on the glass. Clarity is excellent with only a very faint haze common to hop-forward ales.
Aroma. High hop intensity featuring prominent grapefruit citrus and zesty lemon, backed by unique Styrian Dragon notes of forest floor earthiness and cracked black pepper. Low, clean, grainy maltiness provides a neutral backdrop with a very clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Leading with a medium-high hop flavor of citrus peel and spicy herbs. The malt is low and grainy-sweet with a touch of cracker. Bitterness is firm but well-integrated, leading to a dry, crisp finish. The aftertaste is clean and hoppy, showcasing lingering grapefruit pith and earthy spice.
Mouthfeel. Light to medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Carbonation is medium-high, enhancing the refreshing quality. There is no alcohol warmth and zero astringency, making it exceptionally drinkable.
