This Imperial Stout offers an uncompromising sensory assault, delivering an intense punch of dark-roasted complexity. Deep layers of bittersweet chocolate and aromatic coffee dominate the foreground, softened by the inclusion of vanilla and the velvety, thick texture provided by oatmeal. Distinctive notes of black licorice and a whisper of smoke weave through the heavy malt profile. At over 12% ABV, the warmth is significant but integrated into a syrupy, oily body that coats the palate. It is an aggressive, opulent example of the style, balancing bold roasted bitterness against a rich, sweet malt foundation for a harmonious, lingering finish.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). It pours with a dense, persistent deep tan to dark brown head that leaves thick lacing. Visible viscosity is high, displaying clear legs on the glass when swirled.

Aroma. High intensity aroma featuring rich dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and savory black licorice. Distinct smoky notes mingle with the sweet, creamy scent of vanilla. Subtle dark fruit esters of prune and raisin are present, underpinned by a noticeable but smooth alcohol presence. Hop aroma is very low, overshadowed by the intense malt and adjunct character.

Taste. The initial impression is a massive wave of sweet roasted malt, transitioning into bitter cocoa and espresso. Mid-palate reveals vanilla bean and anise, with a recurring smoky grain character. Bitterness is firm and assertive, preventing the residual sweetness from becoming cloying. The finish is long and complex, echoing burnt sugar, dark chocolate, and a lingering, smooth alcoholic warmth.

Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied with a thick, chewy, and oily texture enhanced by the oatmeal. Carbonation is low to moderate, contributing to a luscious, velvety sensation. A significant, glowing warmth is felt in the throat, reflecting the high alcohol content without being sharp or solventy.
