Mikkeller Electric Currant transforms the traditional Berliner Weisse into a vibrant, fruit-forward experience. A bold infusion of real black currants dominates the profile, imparting deep, earthy berry notes and a sharp, electric zing that pierces through the delicate wheat base. The aroma is a dance of lactic tartness and ripe dark fruit, while the palate delivers a clean, puckering acidity reminiscent of lemon and tart fruit skins. Subtle notes of raw bread dough from the malt grist provide a soft foundation for the aggressive fruit character. Refreshing and highly effervescent, it finishes bone-dry with a lingering, berry-stained crispness.

Appearance. Deep magenta to vibrant purple; large, dense, pinkish-white head with poor retention; hazy due to wheat proteins and heavy fruit addition.

Aroma. High intensity; dominant sharply sour lactic character accompanied by intense black currant fruitiness; notes of tart apple and lemon; light floral nuances and a background of sourdough bread or raw dough; no hop aroma.

Taste. Clean, strong lactic sourness provides the primary balance; intense black currant flavor adds earthy berry complexity; complementary doughy and grainy wheat malt flavor; undetectable hop bitterness and no hop flavor; finish is very dry and crisp with lingering berry acidity.
