Mikkeller Big Worse is a powerhouse American Barleywine that commandingly balances its 12% ABV with assertive hop presence. This deep copper-brown ale offers an intense sensory experience, leading with aromas of sweet caramel, honey, and distinct tropical esters including pineapple and peach. The palate follows with a rich, bready malt foundation that quickly yields to an aggressive hop bitterness. Notes of lemon and resinous hops slice through the sweetness, culminating in a surprisingly dry and refined finish. Its velvety texture and significant alcohol warmth make it a quintessential sipping beer, showcasing Mikkeller’s signature bold profile.

Appearance. Deep copper to dark brown (SRM 16-18) with brilliant clarity and ruby highlights. Pours with a moderately low, light tan head that shows limited retention; distinct legs are visible on the glass after swirling.

Aroma. High intensity. Strong malt richness characterized by deep caramel, honey, and toasted bread. Assertive hop aroma features lemon zest, resin, and pineapple. Moderate fruity esters of peach and dried fruit are well-integrated with a noticeable, clean alcohol presence.

Taste. Rich initial impression of caramel and honeyed malt sweetness. Quickly countered by an aggressive hop bitterness. Hop flavors of lemon and tropical fruit dominate the mid-palate alongside yeasty, bready notes. The finish is remarkably dry and very bitter, with a lingering resinous and citrusy aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a chewy, velvety, and luscious texture. Significant alcohol warmth is present but remains smooth and well-integrated. Carbonation is moderate, providing lift to the dense malt structure.
