Messorem Cashes the Cheque

This Imperial Stout is a decadent collaboration between Messorem and Horus, showcasing twenty-six months of maturation in Quebec spirit barrels. The sensory profile is dominated by a luxurious integration of toasted Sri Lankan coconut and a massive dose of Congo vanilla, creating a dessert-like complexity. Expect a deep, dark base of roasted malts providing notes of bittersweet chocolate and espresso, which balance the spirituous warmth. The lengthy aging process softens the intense 11.9% ABV into a velvet-smooth experience, where oak-derived tannins meet the creamy sweetness of the tropical and floral spice additions, resulting in a harmonious, full-flavored masterpiece.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque with significant viscosity visible as slow-moving legs on the glass. Pours with a dense, dark tan to mocha-colored head that shows moderate retention and leaves a fine ring of lacing.
Aroma. High intensity and rich; deep aromas of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and charred oak. The massive Congo vanilla provides a floral, marshmallow-like sweetness, complemented by the nutty, oily richness of toasted Sri Lankan coconut. Significant spirit notes from the barrels include caramel and spice, with low dark fruit esters of prune and fig.
Taste. Intensely flavorful with an initial impression of sweet vanilla cream and rich coconut macaroon. A robust malt backbone of dark chocolate, black licorice, and roasted grain provides a sturdy counterpoint. The mid-palate reveals spirit character and toasted oak. Bitterness is moderate but balanced by high residual sweetness and adjunct density. The finish is long and warming with lingering cocoa.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied, thick, and chewy with a velvety, luscious, and creamy texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. Noticeable but smooth and well-integrated alcohol warmth reflects the high ABV without being harsh or solventy.
